Seagate Hard Disk Drives

The hard disk drive is a secondary storage device that is used in most of the computer systems. A major manufacturer of these storage devices is the Seagate. The Seagate is the brand name in the technology of the storage devices. Also it provides a standard with the ISO 9000 certification.

It has a major reputation in the field of providing quality standard, manufacturing, distribution, design sales and services. There are various types of the storage devices that are used manufactured by the Seagate. In the hard disk sector Seagate is a major manufacturing giant. The hard disks that are available from the Seagate include the starting capacity of 10 gigabytes. These are hard disk drives that were used in the earlier days when the memory rates were costlier.

They normally had the speed of about 5400 rpm. The hard disk drives are available in the storage memory capacities of 20 GB, 40 GB, 60 GB etc. Presently the storage capacities include the 80 GB, 100 GB and the 120 GB hard disk drives. The other higher storage capacities those are available in the hard disk are the 140 GB, 160 GB, 200 GB, 250 GB, 300 GB, 400 GB and the up to 500 GB.

In the case of the speeds of data transmission the Seagate provides 5400 rpm as the normal hard disk drives rate of data transfer. The rpm is the unit that stands for the revolutions per minute. The 7200 rpm is also the speed that is available for the hard disk drive.

The hard disk drive with the speed of 7200 rpm is called as the Barracuda from the Seagate. It is popular brand name that is widely in use. The hard disk drive with the 10000 rpm is called as the Cheetah drive. This is considered as the hard disk drive with the maximum data transfer rate. Apart from the products in the hard disk there are several storage systems that area part of the Seagate products. Seagate has recently launched an external hard disk drive of 500 GB.

There are many types of interfaces that are supported by the Seagate. They include the all types of ATA including the Ultra ATA, Serial ATA, Parallel ATA, SCSI, Ultra SCSI, Ultra 160 SCSI, Ultra 320 SCSI, Fibre Channel etc. The Seagate has recently launched a hand-held drive that is much compact and has a capacity to 2.5 to 5 GB.

It is a handy device that is circular in shape. The official name that is given to this hard disk drive is ‘Pocket hard disk’. There is no need to power it externally and the power supply is provided by the computer itself. The plug and play USB 2.0 interface provides the connectivity to the computer system. The data transfer rate is up to 480 Mbps. It has a speed of 3600 rpm. The drive provides a high performance with the 2 Mbyte cache that consistently deliver.
