Hard Disk Drives Installation ToolsThe hard disk drive is a secondary storage device that is quite popularly used for the purpose of the data storage within the computer system. Since the hard disk is the cheap and a reliable storage device hence it is used for the storage of the data within the computer system. It is much preferable to the other storage devices like the tape storage device due to several factors. The installation of the hard disk drive is simple. But at the same time needs to be carried out carefully. Any new hard disk drive that is provided by the manufacturer has a disk installation CD that comes along with the guide or the manual for the installation process. There are many tools that are available for the hard disk drive installation. The tools are not the hardware tools like the screw driver or the screws but are the software utilities. The procedure for the installation of any hard disk drive can be typically as explained below. The hard disk drive should be taken care that there are none of the static discharges present nearby which can lead to the damage of the device. The computer case or the computer cabinet has the place where the hard disk drive is to be placed. The hard disk drive should be fixed with the help of the screws inside the computer cabinet chamber. Then the data bus should be connected to the hard disk drive and the particular interface on the mother board or the main board on the computer. The hard disk drive power connections should be made from the SMPS – Switch Mode Power Supply. Usually a voltage of 5V is provided to a single hard disk drive. The power connector is usually a four pin connector that is used for the connection of the hard disk drive. Hard disk drive’s jumper settings should be checked. The jumper settings in the hard disk drive usually specify the master slave configurations of the hard disk. It means that if there are more than two hard disk drives then any one of the hard disk drive should be set as the master and the other as the slave. This configuration of the hard disk drive’s jumpers is important because the master boot record should be able to load the operating system. The jumper settings are required incase if there are more than one hard disk drives. After all the steps that are mentioned above are completed then the computer system should be booted and the CD from the manufacturer can be used for the further installation of the hard disk. The CD when placed in the hard disk drive results in the detection of the hard disk drive. Usually the device driver software is used to install any new hardware device in a computer. The Disk Management software utility provided by the manufacturer can be used for the partitioning and the installation of the hard disk drive. The hard disk drive is then formatted and the file system is selected. The formatting of the hard disk drive is important and every new hard disk drive needs to be formatted before its usage. The partitioning of the hard disk drive is an optional consideration. The partitioning is also a good practice of usage. |
